Bulk Materials Storage and Safety Upgrade
Improving Storage Capacity, Safety and Operational Efficiency in a Heavy Industry Environment
MPM delivered project management services for a major bulk materials storage upgrade within an operational heavy industry environment, supporting the replacement of ageing storage infrastructure with a safer, more efficient and higher-capacity solution.
The project was designed to maximise available storage capacity, improve material handling operations and enhance workplace safety through the installation of new, pre-certified precast concrete storage walls. The upgraded storage solution provides greater flexibility for bulk material management while supporting improved transport movement and site efficiency.
MPM provided embedded project management support as part of the client's capital project delivery team, coordinating stakeholders across operations, procurement, engineering, quality, reliability and WHS functions.
Successful project delivery in heavy industry relies on close cooperation, clear communication and strong stakeholder engagement across all areas of the business. Working collaboratively with departments including WHS, procurement, operations, technical, quality, reliability and management ensures projects are well planned, risks are effectively managed, and operational objectives are achieved with minimal disruption.
Maximising bulk material storage capacity, such as fertiliser products, provides clients with greater operational flexibility and improved efficiency. As part of these projects, ageing storage walls that have reached the end of their service life or have compromised structural integrity are replaced with new, higher-capacity, pre-certified precast concrete walls. This approach enables rapid installation during planned shutdowns or outages, significantly reducing downtime, with replacement often completed within a single day.
For this client, we provide embedded project management services across a dedicated capital project portfolio, working as an extension of the client's internal project management team. Our resourcing model is flexible, allowing project management capability to scale up or down in line with changing capital delivery requirements. We can provide these services on either a full-time or part-time basis, with part-time delivery proving to be a highly cost-effective solution for many heavy industry capital projects.
Throughout every project, achieving WHS, budget, schedule and quality objectives is non-negotiable. Our disciplined project management approach ensures these critical performance measures are consistently met while delivering safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes.
Performance, Safety & Sustainability
True project success goes beyond simply delivering a build; it’s about enhancing the way a business operates day to day.
We lead targeted initiatives focused on safety improvements and upgrades, ensuring your facilities exceed modern compliance and protect your most valuable asset: your people.
Paired with our dedication to impactful environmental projects and continuous operational improvements, we help clients achieve greater workflow efficiency, reduce their ecological footprint, and build highly resilient operations.
PROJECT SHOWCASE
Environmental Upgrade and Operational Loading Zone Enclosure
Improving Environmental Performance and Operational Efficiency Through Infrastructure Modernisation
MPM delivered a major environmental upgrade project for a heavy industry client, transforming an operational loading zone through the design and construction of a purpose-built enclosure.
The multi-million-dollar, multi-disciplinary project was designed to improve environmental outcomes, protect operations from weather impacts and modernise existing infrastructure while maintaining continuity within an active industrial environment.
Through careful planning, stakeholder coordination and integrated project management, MPM successfully delivered the project from initial concept through to final completion.
Heavy industry operators are increasingly focused on improving environmental performance, reducing operational impacts and ensuring infrastructure meets evolving sustainability and regulatory expectations.
The existing operational loading area required an upgrade to improve protection from weather and environmental elements, while supporting safer, more efficient operations and addressing long-term site sustainability objectives.
Delivering the project within a live operating environment required careful coordination to minimise disruption while managing complex interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines, contractors and regulatory requirements.
MPM provided end-to-end project management throughout the full project lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, procurement, competitive tendering, approvals, construction delivery and project close-out.
The project incorporated a broad range of disciplines, including:
- Civil infrastructure works, including earthworks and foundations
- Structural elements, including structural steel, timber purlins and cladding
- Mechanical and piping upgrades
- Electrical improvements, including lighting, earthing protection and power reticulation
MPM coordinated project stakeholders, contractors and regulatory requirements to ensure the works were delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with client expectations.
The project achieved full client and regulatory satisfaction, providing a sustainable infrastructure solution that supports safer operations, improved working conditions and ongoing site performance.
Through integrated project management and a strong understanding of heavy industry environments, MPM successfully delivered a complex upgrade that balanced operational requirements, environmental objectives and long-term value.
